The ArtOpiA program at New World School of the Arts provides a mentoring program to young children to facilitate the creative artwork based on a theme. The mentors work on a one-on-one basis, covering fundamental art and design concepts, computer layout programs and various other media including painting, photography, college, etc.
ArtOpiA History:
ArtOpiA is an arts mentoring program launched in 2001 to benefit neglected and disadvantaged children. The main objectives of the program are to encourage children to explore creativity, to impart an appreciation of art and design and its power to communicate, and to introduce children to careers in design and the visual arts. Founded by Rowena Luna of LeftRight Design, Inc. in partnership with Mirta Fuentes, Program Director of the Leadership Learning Center at St. John Bosco Church. ArtOpiA has now become a yearly program at New World School of the Arts through the collaboration with Maggy Cuesta, Dean of Visual Arts, Rosario Martinez-Cañas, Graphic Design Instructor and NWSA design students and instructors.
2008 - Honey Shine partnered with ArtOpiA for the first mentoring art session, with the theme "I am the Vision I Create!”
2011 - The partnership continued with the girls producing artwork with their mentors under the theme "I am Me!”
For a donation of $10 (per poster + shipping/handling) you can own a copy of the artwork the girls and mentors created.
